Pool repair in Tallahassee
Leaks, pumps, filters and salt systems for Leon County pools.
We repair residential pools around Tallahassee: leaks, pumps that will not prime, noisy motors, high filter pressure, salt cells and controls, and skimmers. The number on this site rings the people who do the repairs.
Bucket test: leak or evaporation?
Fill a bucket with pool water and set it on the first or second pool step so it sits in the pool at the same temperature. Mark the water level inside the bucket and the pool level on the outside of the bucket. After 24 hours (no rain, no swimming, no auto-fill), measure both drops.
In a Tallahassee summer, a pool can lose around a quarter inch a day to evaporation alone, more on hot, windy days. The bucket test separates that from a leak.

Pools in Tallahassee: what the climate does
Tallahassee gets about 60 inches of rain a year, more than most of Florida, with the heaviest totals from June through September when afternoon thunderstorms roll in almost daily. Big storms dilute chlorine and salt, push levels over the skimmer, and blow leaves and oak tassels into the water. Long, hot summers mean high evaporation, so a pool can drop noticeably without any leak, which is why the bucket test matters before paying for leak detection.
Spring brings heavy live-oak and pine pollen, which loads filters fast. Expect higher filter pressure and more frequent cleaning from about February through April. Local soils range from red clay hills on the north side to sandier ground toward the south; shifting or saturated soil after long rain can stress buried pool plumbing.
Rules that affect pool repairs in Florida
- Licensing. Florida requires pool and spa contractors to be licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) for structural pool work and many equipment and plumbing jobs. Anyone can check a license at myfloridalicense.com.
- Permits. New pools, resurfacing that changes the structure, and many electrical and gas heater changes need a permit: the City of Tallahassee for city addresses, Leon County for unincorporated areas, and Wakulla or Gadsden County for Crawfordville and Havana.
- Pool safety barriers. Florida's Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act (Chapter 515, Florida Statutes) requires new residential pools to have at least one approved safety feature, such as a barrier, an approved safety cover, or door and window alarms.
- Pump efficiency rules. Since July 19, 2021, the U.S. Department of Energy's dedicated-purpose pool pump standard has applied to new pumps, which in practice means most replacement in-ground filter pumps are variable-speed models.
